Description
NGC 1906 PR 64. Only 85 proof half eagles were struck in 1906 and we estimate that today somewhere between 45 and 60 pieces survive. This is a spectacular proof. Struck in the no-contrast style used by the mint in the early years of this century, the devices are as brilliant and dazzling as the fields are. We can find no evidence of actual cleaning on either side, just a few wispy hairlines from handling and a contact mark here and there. An exceptionally intense and vibrant coin, this piece represents excellent value in a near-gem proof half eagle. Population: 7 in 64, only 2 finer. (NGC ID# 28DC, PCGS# 8501)
