1907 Half Eagle, Gem Cameo Proof

1907 $5 PR65 Cameo PCGS. A needle-sharp Gem with radiant pale gold devices and imposing deeply mirrored fields. Thorough examination under a loupe fails to reveal any remotely noticeable hairlines. A pair of almost invisible parallel marks (possibly mint-made) bisect Liberty's lower neck to her lowest hair curl. These can only be seen with strong magnification, but will provide a pedigree marker for any future auction appearances of this magnificent specimen. The final year of proof Liberty Half Eagle production, although business strikes of the type were coined in Philadelphia dated 1908. Proofs can be identified by a bold diagonal die line west of the initial vertical stripe of the shield. As of (8/05), PCGS has certified only one 1907 proof Half Eagle as PR65 Cameo, with just two finer.(#88502) (Registry values: P1)
