Description

1905 Liberty Half Eagle, PR63
CAC-Approved Quality

1905 $5 JD-1, R.5, PR63 NGC. CAC. The Philadelphia Mint struck a small mintage of 108 proof Liberty half eagles in 1905. A single pair of dies was used to strike all the proofs. John Dannreuther estimates the surviving population at 60 to 75 examples in all grades. This spectacular Select proof exhibits sharply detailed frosty design elements that show strong, but unacknowledged contrast with the deeply reflective fields. Only minor, scattered nicks and hairlines are evident, consistent with the grade. Overall eye appeal is outstanding and the high quality within the grade is confirmed by CAC. Census: 4 in 63, 5 finer. CAC: 1 in 63, 2 finer (7/25).
