Description
1883 No Cents Nickel, PR67 Deep Cameo
Sole Finest Deep Cameo of This First-Year Type
1883 5C No Cents PR67 Deep Cameo PCGS. Charles E. Barber's
initial Liberty Head nickel design omitted CENTS on the reverse as
part of the denomination. The Mint recognized the error and added
CENTS before the end of 1883. At least seven different obverse dies
were used to produce 5,219 examples of the 1883 No Cents proofs;
the present variety, with a normal date and the 1 close to the
bust, is the most common. This coin offers superior eye appeal for
this often dull, spotted, and/or impaired issue. The fields are
bright at all angles and show hints of soft golden-tan patina on
both sides. Every feature is fully struck. The smooth, deeply
cameoed surfaces are more than worthy of the Superb Gem grade. This
noteworthy example is the sole finest Deep Cameo certified at PCGS.
Population: 1 in 67 Deep Cameo, 0 finer (4/14).Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2004), lot 2020.
