Remarkable Repunched Date 1884 Nickel, FS-301
PR64 Cameo, Only One So Certified by PCGS
1884 5C PR64 Cameo PCGS. Repunched Date. FS-301, formerly
FS-013.8. At present, this is the only proof example of the variety
specifically certified as such by PCGS (8/09); it is listed under
PCGS number 410660 in the Population Report. The four digits
of the date show secondary digits shifted south, most prominently
on the 1; since this is a proof and thus by definition an early die
state, the die crack often seen through the last two digits of the
date is absent. Light golden overtones grace this moderately
contrasted, powerfully mirrored near-Gem proof. Excellent detail
with only a few tiny points of contact in the fields.
