Description

1888 5C PR63 NGC. The 1888 proof Liberty Head nickel claims a sizeable mintage of 4,582 pieces. Walter Breen notes most examples seen have dull mint luster, possibly due to some trace element in the nickel stock. Sharp design details confirm the proof status of this piece. The obverse has light gold and violet toning with a few dark flecks, while the reverse displays rainbow patina.(Registry values: N491)
