Singular PR68 1891 Liberty Nickel
1891 5C PR68 NGC. NGC has certified only three proof 1891 Liberty nickels as PR68, regardless of contrast designation, and PCGS none (1/12). While this is the only non-Cameo specimen of the three, it is nonetheless a beautiful and entirely worthwhile coin. There is a clear contrast in texture between the exquisitely detailed, delicately frosted devices and the smooth semireflectivity of the mirrors, though the coin's rich patina, green-gold and pale blue with additional light peach in patches at the margins, dulls what must have been a wonderful cameo effect. Surface quality, as demanded of the grade, is exceptional.(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 277Z, PCGS# 3889, GSID# 3009)
