    Description

Tied For Finest Known 1861 Quarter Eagle, PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS

1861 $2 1/2 PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. The 1861 Proof quarter eagle is extremely rare. Of the original mintage of 90 pieces, David Akers asserts that no more than 9 different examples can be accounted for. Nine pieces have also been certified by PCGS and NGC combined, although some of these may represent resubmissions.
The surfaces of this coin are a warm apricot-gold, and are exquisitely preserved. The motifs are sharply defined, and offer a striking contrast with the deeply mirrored fields. A couple of tiny as-made indentions are noted on the obverse, as is a small lint mark in the field to the left of Liberty's nose. All in all, this lovely coin exudes great eye appeal. Population: 2 in 65 Deep Cameo, 0 finer (8/05).(#97887)(Registry values: P6) (PCGS# 97887)

    Weight: 4.18 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
