Description
Glorious Cameo Proof 1866 Quarter Eagle
1866 $2 1/2 PR 64 PCGS. The 1866 quarter eagle is a rare issue both as a business strike and as a proof, boasting mintages of just 3,080 and 30 pieces respectively. This piece, like the few other high grade proofs that remain today, displays stark cameo contrast between the deeply mirrored fields and the heavily frosted features. The surfaces are a medium golden-orange and easily qualify as a gem in terms of eye appeal, but its technical rating has been hampered by a solitary, but fairly obvious hairline in the field facing the portrait and another above the eagle's head. Population: 5 in 64, 2 finer (6/99).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 287L, PCGS# 7892, GSID# 8477)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
Weight: 4.18 grams
AGW: 0.12095oz
Mintage: 30
