PR 64 1873 $2 1/2, One of the Finest Known

1873 PR 64 PCGS. A true condition-rarity and one of the finest examples known of this issue. Of the 25 proofs originally struck, 11 have been certified as of 8/95 by either PCGS or NGC. The finest graded by NGC are two PR 63s; PCGS has graded 3 PR 63s and 4 PR 64s (some of which are likely to be duplicates). This example is a glittering cameo, with excellent contrast between the watery fields and the frosted devices. In reality, this piece has very little in the way of post-striking flaws, but a number of tiny lint marks and pinpoint planchet voids are noted in the fields, and even on the devices. Naturally, these have been factored into the grade, but in terms of original appearance, eye appeal, and overall quality, this coin is a gem.
