Description

Extremely Scarce Proof 1876 Quarter Eagle

1876 PR 64 PCGS. A great companion coin to the proof 1876 gold dollar offered earlier, the quarter eagle is also one of a mere 45 proofs issued in the United States' centennial year. Breen suggested that possibly only 24 pieces survive today. This is a glittering, slightly cameoed example with pale reddish color about the reverse periphery. A minor rim irregularity, perhaps as struck, is found at 7 o'clock on the obverse. Faint obverse hairlines account for the grade. Population: 7 in 64, 2 higher (6/96).
