Description
Gem Proof 1879 Quarter Eagle
1879 $2 1/2 PR65 PCGS. An extremely rare proof with a mintage of only 30 pieces. From that original production, it is estimated today that between 15 and 18 pieces still survive as recognizable proofs. According to Akers, "Proofs are extremely rare and are less often seen than the more highly regarded Proofs of 1873 and 1875." The highly reflective fields are pristine and display deep reddish-gold and peach color with a couple of faint splashes of rose patina. A close examination and a strong bid is recommended for the advanced collector of proof gold. Population: 2 in 65, 1 finer (2/05).(#7905) (Registry values: P5)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2882, PCGS# 7905, GSID# 8516)
