Description

Trouble-Free 1881 Quarter Eagle
PR64 Deep Cameo

1881 $2 1/2 PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. The net low mintage of only 73 proofs complements the also-low business strike production of 1,950 coins, and today both issues are popular for those reasons in high grade. Garrett and Guth estimate that only 20 proofs survive, but many of them are impaired. This trouble-free near-Gem proof boasts a razor-sharp strike, with brightly reflective mirrors and dramatic field-device contrast. The surfaces display consistent, attractive light orange-gold color. A few light minor hairlines appear in the fields, but there are no significant distractions. This piece ranks among the finest obtainable at PCGS with Deep Cameo surfaces. Population: 3 in 64 Deep Cameo, 0 finer (5/10).(Registry values: P4)
