Description
Cameo Proof 1881 Quarter Eagle
1881 PR 62 Cameo NGC. A rare, low total mintage date of which only 51 proofs were originally coined along with a mere 640 business strikes. It is estimated only about 50 pieces may survive today in all grades--both proofs and business strikes. Quite a few of the survivors of this date are impaired or low grade, and as a result the 1881 has received a bit more attention from specialists over the years than other dates with comparable mintages. The fields are deeply mirrored and there are numerous tiny contact marks on each side which account for the grade. However, the effect of these marks is subdued somewhat by a hazy film that covers each side.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2884, PCGS# 7907, GSID# 8522)
