    Cameo Proof 1882 Quarter Eagle

1882 $2 1/2 PR63 Deep Cameo PCGS. The 1882 Quarter Eagle boasts a small production of only 67 proofs, and roughly half of the mintage survives today. However, quite a few are impaired or show obvious impairments. The actual number of proofs has been somewhat "watered down" over the years as numerous prooflike business strikes have been sold as proofs in the past. There is certainly no doubt about this coin's status, though. The fields are deeply mirrored, as only a proof can be, and the devices display a significant amount of mint frost. Each side displays rich reddish patina and there is a curious swath of haziness across the center of the obverse. Population: 1 in 63 Deep Cameo, 2 finer (8/03).

Thanks to Heritage I realized a handsome profit for my coin submissions and intend to send most of the remainder of my collection to Heritage Auction Galleries for future auctions.
