    Description

Beautiful, Deeply Cameoed 1882 Proof Two-and-a-Half

1882 $2 1/2 PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. The Philadelphia Mint's delivery of 4,067 Quarter Eagles in 1882 included 67 examples struck in proof format. Although some high grade survivors of the business strike issue display markedly prooflike surfaces, the present coin is readily identifiable as a genuine specimen by the position of the 1 in the date relative to the dentil below the left base. That diagnostic notwithstanding, the pinpoint striking detail, richly frosted texture to the devices, and unfathomably deep fields could only be the result of proof production methods. Aglow in yellow-gold hues, both sides are smooth and nearly in the Gem category. There is a small lintmark (as struck) in the right obverse field that should be of obvious importance for pedigree purposes. Population: 1 in 64 Deep Cameo, with just one additional DCAM example finer (3/04). (#97908) (PCGS# 97908)

    Weight: 4.18 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
