    Description

Lovely 1882 Quarter Eagle, PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS, One of a Mere 67 Pieces Produced

1882 $2 1/2 PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. This glistening Gem is one of only three Deep Cameo proof 1882 Quarter Eagles known to the major grading services (4/02). No more than 32 proofs of this date are believed extant with all finishes and at all levels of preservation. Radiant with a needle sharp strike, both sides exhibit black-on-white cameo contrast between the frosty textured devices and the unfathomably deep mirrors in the fields. There are very few distracting handling marks, none of which would call into question the validity of the PR65 designation. A trio of as struck features are worthwhile for pedigree purposes: a pair of lintmarks on Liberty's portrait, one on the cheek and the other on the neck, and a small planchet void in the reverse field at the 1 in the denomination. The desirability of this specimen is further enhanced by the limited original mintage (4,000 pieces) of the business strike 1882 Quarter Eagle. (PCGS# 97908)
