Description

PCGS 1882 PR 64. A rare, low mintage proof striking with only 67 pieces originally struck, out of which perhaps 32 coins may survive today in all grades. Quite a few of the survivors of this date are impaired or low grade, and as a result this date has received a bit more attention from specialists over the years than other dates with comparable mintages. Like the gold dollars from this same decade, there are numerous, deceptive prooflike business strikes that have, in the past, been sold as proofs. This is one of the finer examples known of this rare date. The fields are very deeply mirrored and the devices show a significant amount of mint luster, but the cameo effect is diminished because of the deep reddish-coppery patina seen over both sides. Population: 7 in 64, 10 finer (8/94).

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2885, PCGS# 7908, GSID# 8525)

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
Weight: 4.18 grams
AGW: 0.12095oz
Mintage: 67
