Description
1883 Quarter Eagle, Sharply Struck PR62
Considerable Field-Motif Contrast
1883 $2 1/2 PR62 PCGS. Only 82 proof quarter eagles were
minted in 1883, making the coin rare in all numerical grades and
formats. The PCGS website estimates that 40 to 50 examples are
known. PCGS and NGC have graded 55 specimens in all three finishes,
and the Heritage Auction Archives record 51 pieces sold at auction
since 1993. The orange-gold surfaces of this PR62 offering exhibit
considerable field-motif contrast, and are limited in numeric grade
by a few minor hairlines in the fields. Sharply struck design
elements enhance the coin's eye appeal. Housed in a green-label
holder. Population: 4 in 62, 10 finer (4/14).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2886, PCGS# 7909, GSID# 8528)
