Description

PR62 1885 Quarter Eagle
Mintage 87 Pieces

1885 $2 1/2 PR62 PCGS. CAC. The tiny mintage of 87 pieces combines with the scarcity of 1885 business strikes to make this an elusive proof issue, according Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth, authors of the Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold Coins. This specimen has the expected striking sharpness of a proof, including broad rims and crisp definition in the centers. A few minor contact marks and hairlines prevent a higher grade.
