Description
Amazing PR66 Cameo 1885 Quarter Eagle
1885 $2 1/2 PR66 Cameo NGC. This Liberty quarter eagle proof issue is famous for its association with a business strike mintage of just 800 pieces, but the proof date's own production of just 87 specimens is not to be ignored, either. This high-quality Cameo specimen offers impressive contrast between the pale, frosted yellow-gold of the exquisitely detailed portraits and the glassy fields, which appear canary-yellow or golden-black depending on the angle. The surfaces are remarkably smooth, and though a handful of pinpoint marks are visible under magnification, the eye appeal is strong in all respects. Census: 1 in 66 Cameo, 1 finer (10/09).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2888, PCGS# 87911, GSID# 8535)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
