Description
Infrequently Offered Proof 1886 Liberty Quarter Eagle
1886 $2 1/2 PR63 PCGS. The rarity of this proof delivery is such that neither Amon Carter nor Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. had a representative of this issue in their collections. The mintage of this issue is a paltry 88 pieces, and the number of survivors is estimated at fewer than 36 coins. This is an important representative with orange-gold and tan-gold surfaces over which mottled haziness has gathered. Both sides are fully struck, a pair of alloy spots in the upper reverse field are the only singularly mentionable distractions.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2889, PCGS# 7912, GSID# 8537)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
