Description

Scintillating Gem Proof 1887 Quarter Eagle

1887 $2 1/2 PR65 PCGS. Although not stated on this earlier generation of PCGS insert, this coin boasts strong Cameo contrast, with the devices heaped with frost on the obverse and reverse. This is particularly true of this date, as the majority of the mintage of 122 pieces shows this strong contrast. This particular coin shows a lint mark on Liberty's cheek, which is located right behind her mouth and below her eye, and a tiny planchet flake below the serif of S(T) on the reverse. A thin die file mark from below Liberty's earlobe extends downward through much of the lovelock. There are unpolished areas within the vertical shield stripes, primarily around the outer boarder of that device. Population: 4 in 65, 0 finer (12/04).
