Description

Flashy 1888 Cameo Proof Quarter Eagle

1888 PR 64 Cameo NGC. The surfaces are deeply mirrored and possess the "orange peel" texture that is so often present on proof gold. The devices are moderately frosted creating a pleasing cameo effect. A couple of tiny hairlines are visible under magnification and there is a distinctive curlicue lint mark that winds its way from the upper lip of Liberty onto the cheek. Of the 97 proofs minted, it has been estimated that perhaps no more than 35-38 examples exist today in all grades.
