Description

1889 Quarter Eagle, PR65 Deep Cameo
Rare With Deep Contrast

1889 $2 1/2 JD-1, R.6, PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. With a mere 48 proofs struck and only about half that number known to survive, it stands to reason that very few Gem Deep Cameo examples exist today. This deeply mirrored, high-contrast example displays vivid orange-gold color and only a few light field specks and pinpoint marks exist on the PR65 Deep cameo surfaces. Sharply struck with all obverse and reverse design elements beautifully formed. While an average year in the 1880s computes to 94 proofs produced, the 1889 issue is a low-mintage anomaly that attracts collectors who recognize the absolute rarity of this proof date. Heritage seldom offers such an opportunity for gold proof specialists. PCGS Population: 2 in 65 (1 in 65+) Deep Cameo, 0 finer (11/25).
