1891 $2 1/2 PR64 PCGS. A clearly contrasted specimen of this later 19th century proof quarter eagle issue, though the green label holder does not acknowledge the cameo effect. Deeply mirrored fields balance aspects of lemon and honey, all under a thin partial veil of patina, while the crisply detailed portrait and eagle are largely frost-gold. Wispy hairlines close to the central devices determine the grade. Just 80 specimens were struck for this issue, but its survival and auction appearance rates are significantly lower than usual for a stated mintage of similar size.(Registry values: P3)
