Description

1892 Quarter Eagle, PR64 Deep Cameo
Strong Strike, Sharp Mirrors

1892 $2 1/2 JD-1, R.5, PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. Yellow-gold devices contrast with richly mirrored surfaces that contain a faint hue of red-gold. A few marks in the field are grade-consistent, and strike is razor-sharp. In 1892, the mintage of proof quarter eagles reached triple digits for the third time ever at 105 coins, after 1860's production of 112 coins and 1887's production of 122 coins. It would remain above this level for the rest of the Proof quarter eagle series. The 1892 is part of the golden age of Proof gold, where coins with high levels of contrast are relatively available. PCGS has awarded the Deep Cameo certification to 37% of 1892 Proof quarter eagle submissions. PCGS Population: 8 in 64 (1 in 64+) Deep Cameo, 16 finer (3/26).
