Description

1893 Quarter Eagle, An Appealing PR 65 Specimen

1893 $2 1/2 PR 65 PCGS. Produced to the extent of only 106 pieces, the 1893 proof quarter eagle is represented by a mere 40 examples in today's hobby. In fact, this date is more difficult to locate than the 1892, despite the latter issue's similar mintage of 105 pieces. This originally preserved specimen displays frosty, orange-gold devices that reflect in the glassy, green-gold fields. There is not a single grade-limiting contact mark on either side, and every feature rises powerfully above the surfaces with crisp striking detail.
From the Richard Allen Collection.
