Description

1894 Quarter Eagle, PR65
Eye-Catching Deep Cameo Surfaces

1894 $2 1/2 JD-1, Low R.5, PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. The years 1894 to 1899 represent the Mint's highest proof gold quality featuring richly frosted raised devices and deep, watery mirrored fields for high-grade examples. This 1894 Gem Deep Cameo quarter eagle is a fine example of the high production quality. The motifs are needle-sharp and blanketed in a smooth, thick layer of nearly white mint frost to easily achieve the Deep Cameo designation. A few wayward hairlines on the reverse perhaps limit the numeric grade but do not diminish the exceptional eye appeal. The 122-piece proof mintage yields between 60 to 70 proof survivors in all grades and formats according to John Dannreuther's research. PCGS Population: 9 in 65 (4 in 65+) Deep Cameo, 14 finer (3/26).
