Description
NGC 1895 PR 66 Cameo. A singularly impressive proof gold piece that shows heavily contrasted fields and devices with a light hazy patina surrounding the outer devices. This piece is tied for the finest known example of the date. One estimate places the number of survivors between 45 and 55 pieces out of a mintage of 119 proofs. The 1895 proof quarter eagle is 8 to 10 times rarer than the more famous proof Morgan of the year.
