Description

Gorgeous 1896 PR 66 Cameo Quarter Eagle

1896 PR 66 Cameo NGC. A gorgeous, totally original example that is tinted a delicate orange-gold and shows unfathomably deep mirrors in the fields. The devices are heavily frosted and the resultant cameo contrast is very attractive. Only the most trivial slidemarks on Liberty's cheek and neck, visible only under a glass, preclude this lovely proof quarter eagle from a coveted PR 67 rating. Surely among the finest specimens remaining from a proof mintage of 132 pieces.
