Description

Superb Cameo Proof 1899 Quarter Eagle

1899 PR 67 Cameo NGC. The 1899 is one of the more available dates in the late date series of Coronet quarter eagles, from a mintage of 150 proofs and, while available in a wide range of grades, this is certainly one of the finest examples known. Both sides exhibit a lovely orange-peel effect and only the tiniest frost breaks on Liberty's chin are of post-minting origin. A small copper stain on the eagle's left wing is the result of impurities in the metal. Like most 1899 proofs, the devices are heavily frosted and present a stark cameo contrast against the unfathomable depth of mirrored reflectivity seen in the fields.
