Description

1900 Quarter Eagle, PR67 Deep Cameo
Among an Elite Group of Survivors
Only 205 Proofs Struck

1900 $2 1/2 PR67 Deep Cameo PCGS. The 1900 Liberty Head quarter eagle proofs were made to the highest possible standards and in greater numbers than any other year in the series, save for the 1901. That is not to say examples are plentiful. The Mint struck 205 specimens for collectors -- a significant number within the context of the series, but a paltry sum in absolute terms. A small group of elite examples survive in this high grade with Deep Cameo contrast.

The fields appear jet-black, showing pronounced reflectivity that contributes to the stark contrast seen on both sides. Another factor is the thick layer of frost that covers fully impressed design elements. Rich, orange-gold surfaces are essentially free of contact. This is a delightful specimen worthy of serious consideration. Population: 8 in 67 (2 in 67+) Deep Cameo, 4 finer (2/17).(Registry values: P1)
