    Description

    Gem Proof 1901 Quarter Eagle

1901 $2 1/2 PR65 PCGS. In short, this coin seems undergraded at the PR65 level of preservation. We can find no noteworthy hairlines or contact marks with the naked eye, and the color is a deep, rich, orange-gold shade. The finish is boldly cameoed, the devices being frosty and the fields deeply reflective. A little swirl of haziness in the upper left reverse field is noted for accuracy only. The 1901 (223 pieces produced) is, along with the 1900, the most available proof Liberty Quarter Eagle. Nevertheless, survivors are rare when compared to proofs of other, non-gold denominations. (NGC ID# 288R, PCGS# 7927)
