Sharp PR62 1902 Quarter Eagle

1902 $2 1/2 PR62 PCGS. CAC. The 1902 quarter eagle has a reported proof production of 193 pieces, but most of the survivors are about the grade of the present piece. This was the year that the Philadelphia Mint moved away from highly contrasting surfaces for proof gold. This yellow-gold piece shows some scattered marks in the fields on each side that account for the grade, most notably behind Liberty's head. Despite minor contact, there is plenty of appeal on the sharply struck surfaces. Population: 20 in 62, 75 finer (10/09).(Registry values: P1)
