Description
Scarce PR66 1902 Quarter Eagle
1902 $2 1/2 PR66 PCGS. Only 193 proofs were produced of the 1902 quarter eagle, and of that number probably fewer than half are extant today as recognizable proof strikings. This was also the first year of the all-brilliant method of proofing with the devices equally as brilliant as the fields. This is a particularly well preserved example, and it is very rare as such with only four pieces graded PR66 by PCGS and an equal number by NGC with five pieces finer (10/04). The surfaces have a deep reddish-golden patina that is most attractive, and overall the coin is well balanced on both obverse and reverse.(#7928) (Registry values: P1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 288S, PCGS# 7928, GSID# 8585)
