Description
NGC 1904 PR 65. Although struck during a period when no-contrast proofs were in vogue, this piece actually does show a small amount of contrast between the fields and devices, especially on the reverse. Of the 170 proofs struck, it has been estimated that perhaps no more than 55 pieces exist today. This is one of the finer proofs known of this date with surfaces that appear flawless to the unaided eye. The coin has taken on a rich coppery-reddish patina that is most attractive and does not obscure the depth of mirrored reflectivity in the fields. Population: 4 in 65, none finer (7/94).
