Description

PCGS 1904 PR 65. Although struck during a period when no-contrast proofs were in vogue, this piece actually does show a small amount of contrast between the fields and devices. Of the 170 proofs struck, it has been estimated that perhaps no more than 55 pieces exist today. This is one of the finer proofs known of this date with only the faintest hairlines visible in the obverse fields. The coin has taken on a deep orange-gold hue with a slight halo of lilac patina in the center of the reverse.
