Description
Incredibly Well Preserved 1904 Quarter Eagle, PR 65 PCGS
1904 $2 1/2 PR 65 PCGS. It is a widely accepted fact that 55 proof 1904 quarter eagles survive out of an original mintage of 170 pieces. If this number seems respectable by proof gold standards, one should bear in mind Akers assertion that this issue comes in a wide range of grades and Gem representatives are often unavailable for any price. That said, the importance of this lot should be obvious to serious gold collectors. A bright, essentially brilliant coin, the surfaces display unfathomably deep fields and thinly frosted devices. A small planchet flake in the obverse field before Liberty's mouth is a worthwhile pedigree marker, but both sides are free of distracting post-production impairments. Sharply struck, as always, this is an aesthetically pleasing and technically superior specimen.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 288U, PCGS# 7930, GSID# 8591)
