Final Year For High-Mintage Proofs of The Design

1905 $2 1/2 PR62 NGC. The 1905 was the final year for proof Liberty half eagles with a mintage in excess of 100 pieces. Of the 144 proofs struck, JD has estimated that today 60 to 75 are known in all grades. This is an attractive, deeply reflective proof that shows some contrast against the frost over the devices. Adding to the visual interest, each side is surrounded by rose-gold toning around the margins. A number of contact marks in the fields on each side account for the grade.
