The 1905 proof quarter eagle is rare in all grades, but is especially difficult to locate with any degree of field-motif contrast due to a change a few years before in the way proof dies were manufactured. This Select Cameo is appealing not only for its distinctive contrast, rich honey-gold color, and sharp devices, but also for its lack of major impairments; only a few minor ticks in unobtrusive locales limit the technical grade.
