Description

Superb Gem Proof 1905 Two and a Half
Only One Finer Coin at NGC

1905 $2 1/2 PR67 NGC. CAC. Only 144 proof Liberty quarter eagles were struck in 1905, the lowest production total of the final decade of the series. In terms of total number of specimens known the issue is not as elusive as the low mintage suggests. However, examples in Superb Gem condition, like the present coin, are very rare.
The coin offered here is a sharply detailed Superb Gem, with razor-sharp definition on Liberty's curls and the eagle's claws. Like most proofs of the period, the devices are not heavily frosted and show little contrast with the deeply reflective fields. The light greenish-gold surfaces are virtually pristine, with terrific eye appeal. Census: 3 in 67, 1 finer (8/12).
