Description

Superb Proof 66 1906 Quarter Eagle

1906 PR 66 NGC. While not considered a rare proof date, we have handled few examples of this issue over the past few years. Of the 160 pieces originally produced, today perhaps as many as 65 exist in all grades. This is certainly one of the finer ones extant and is immediately recognizable as a proof by its deeply reflective fields and intricate striking details. For pedigree purposes, there is a tiny planchet indention in the field on the reverse above the eagle's head, and a couple of microscopic chatter marks behind Liberty's head. Still, a superb example. Population: 7 in PR 66, none finer (5/96).
