Description

1905 JD-1 Quarter Eagle, PR65
CAC Approved

1905 $2 1/2 JD-1, R.4, PR65 NGC. CAC. Mint records show a production of 144 proof quarter eagles in 1905, and current estimates suggest that about 120 of those survive. Little contrast is noted on this proof that was produced at a time when the Mint's officials discouraged the cameo appearance that is popular with today's collectors. Both sides of this Gem proof display nicely mirrored orange-gold fields and exceptional design definition. A copper toning spots at the lowest curl behind Liberty's neck will serve for identification. Additional pedigree markers are noted on the reverse rim over the first T in STATES and the O in OF. Census: 17 in 65, 20 finer. CAC: 6 in 65, 11 finer (7/25).
