Description

1900 Quarter Eagle, PR65 Deep Cameo
Stunning, Highly-Contrasted Surfaces

1900 $2 1/2 JD-1, Low R.4, PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. Yellow-gold surfaces are contrasted with mirrored fields that display some orange-peeling. Intricate definition is present on all design elements. A hairline scratch at Star 4 identifies this example for pedigree purposes.

The 1900-1901 period is the high watermark of proof Liberty Head quarter eagle mintages, with 205 minted of the former date and 223 of the latter, making these the two most common Proof dates of the series. The 1900 also represented the peak certified population of Deep and Ultra Cameo certified examples. This makes this example an ideal representative of the "caviar of American numismatics" in a type set, as earlier dates are less available and later dates lack the stunning cameo contrast of the present offering.
