Description

Elusive Proof 1909 VDB Cent
PR64 Red and Brown

1909 1C VDB PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. The usually seen die pair, here with prominent die scratches in front of the nose and a fainter die line from the rear jacket to below the T in LIBERTY. The obverse is about 50% blue and 50% red, a totally original appearance with a single small fleck in the right field. The reverse is carbon-free and shows considerably more red, shading to violet near the rims. Some fine, raised die lines also appear on the lower reverse to the left of the VDB initials, under the lower stem of the wheat stalk. A well-struck and delightful coin for the grade, worthy of a premium bid for this elusive matte proof issue. Population: 29 in 64 Red and Brown, 35 finer (9/11).
