Description

1909 VDB Cent, PR64 Red and Brown
Key to the Matte Proof Series

1909 1C VDB PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. Among matte proof Lincoln cents, the 1909 VDB is the key date. The Mint reportedly struck 1,194 examples, although the issue is significantly rarer than that mintage suggests today. Likely, as many as half of those coins never made it into circulation.

Any example of the VDB proof is a sought-after rarity. This Choice Red and Brown piece displays broad, squared rims and sharp definition, with rich copper-red and burgundy toning. A spot at the right top of the T in CENT and another, smaller one near the N in IN serve as pedigree markers. Population: 33 in 64 (1 in 64+) Red and Brown, 46 finer (1/25).(Registry values: N1793)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22KR, PCGS# 3301, Greysheet# 2471)

Weight: 3.11 grams

Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin & Zinc
