Description

1909 VDB Lincoln Cent, PR66 Brown
Sole Finest Brown Coin at PCGS

1909 1C VDB PR66 Brown PCGS. The rarest non-error issue in the Lincoln cent series is the 1909 VDB matte proof. Kevin Flynn and others have pegged the mintage for this issue at only 1,194 pieces, but possibly only 400 to 600 of those were actually distributed, contributing to the issue's rarity today. The survivorship is somewhat congregated in the Red and Brown category, with minorities in Brown or Red. However, duplication is rampant in the published reports, making exact tallies difficult.

This is the sole finest Brown coin at PCGS (12/25). Deep violet, blue-green, gold, and brown patina encompasses this piece, while the strike is full throughout the devices, and the rims are broad and squared. Pleasing in all respects.(Registry values: N2998)
