Description

1912 Cent, PR66 Red CAC
Tied Finest at PCGS

1912 1C PR66 Red PCGS. CAC. Beautiful red surfaces contain a slight orangish tint, along with hints of blue-steel. Design definition is distinctively detailed throughout. After a nosedive in 1911 to 1,725 pieces, production of proofs recovered slightly in 1912, to 2,172 proofs. However, this year is difficult in higher grades, with Stephen G. Manley stating in his 1981 book The Lincoln Cent, "[t]he 1912 is the biggest sleeper of the Lincoln cent series in the upper grades." This is reflected in the certification data, with PR66 Red representing the finest available, a level of quality that this superlative CAC-approved example dutifully represents. PCGS Population: 5 in 66, 0 finer (4/26). CAC: 3 in 66, 0 finer (4/26).
