The mintage of the matte proof 1914 cent was less than half its 1913 predecessor, likely because two subtypes of Buffalo nickels were offered in proof the prior year. Although designated as Red and Brown, the present fully struck and carbon-free specimen is predominantly Red with orange-gold and rose-red shades.(Registry values: N991)
